What do you do when something goes right at work? Nothing? Most don’t celebrate to the detriment of the team.

What do you do when your football team wins? Jump in the air and yell “yippee“? So do I! You feel exhilarated and rewarded for the effort. It feels good.

So why not do the same in the work context? Admittedly yelling and screaming might be counter productive in the office environment. However there are other appropriate ways to celebrate. You will know what is appropriate for your context. The important thing is to Celebrate!

Celebration could be a simple “well done mate” to a team member. We once had a celebration at the end of a project that was a huge party. That was pretty special and we had a team that deserved every bit of it. The team had delivered two years of work in eleven months! We had deadlines set by others and they had to be met or legal action was in the offing. While it was a huge party, my Project Director and I made sure we spoke ono to one to every member of the team and passed on the “well done mate”.

Projects are not delivered because of the money. It is delivered by the people. Allow them to celebrate success!
